Doris Regina Wilde was born at South Brisbane on 1 October 1895. Married Charles Booth on 14 May 1919. In 1923 Doris took a share in four trade-stores and became a licensed recruiter of labour. She secured her own miner's rights in 1924. Doris Booth went on to become a successful mine-manger and company director, Member of the Upper House in Papua New Guinea, and women's activist. She died on 4 November 1970 in Brisbane.

Murray, J. K. (Jack Keith), Sir, 1889-1980

Sir Jack Keith Murray was born in 1889 in Brighton, Victoria. He was appointed principal of the Queensland State Agricultural College (Gatton) in 1923 and became a Professor of Agriculture at The University of Queensland in 1929. He served as a colonel in the army in World War II and was commanding officer of the 25th (Darling Downs) Battalion in 1940. In September 1945 he was appointed Administrator of the Australian territories of Papua and New Guinea after the military administration left. He retired from that position in 1952. He was appointed to the University of Queensland Senate in 1953 and died in 1979.

Anne McCosker, poet, writer and historian of Australians in the colonial territory of New Guinea. Born in Rabaul in 1940, she was evacuated with her family to Brisbane in 1941 and educated at Somerville House in Brisbane and the National Ballet School, London. She has published several books of poetry since 1972 and in 1998 published a non-fiction work, Masked Eden: a History of the Australians in New Guinea.

The Black Resource Centre operated in Melbourne in 1975 but moved to Brisbane in 1976 "due to the oppressive nature of the Queensland Acts and the Struggle for land rights in North Queensland". It was set up to help build a strong and successful black liberation movement. It was used as an organisational point for the tent embassy in King George Square.

Lowah, Thomas, 1914-

Thomas Lowah was born in 1914 in the Torres Strait Islands. He worked as a diver on pearling luggers which worked the waters of the Torres Strait and the Great Barrier Reef. Thomas joined the army in World War Two and was part of the Torres Strait Light Infantry Battalion. At the end of the war he went back to the luggers. He later moved to North Queensland, working a number of jobs. He retired to live in Cairns where he wrote his autobiography. He died in 1989.
