University of Queensland Mayne Hall
- Corporate body
Situated on the lawns in front of the main facade of the University, Mayne Hall was first opened in 1973. The original building was the culmination of a long standing dream to have a 'Great Hall' as part of the University. It was designed by Robin Gibson. A pipe organ was an integral part of the design. The Hall was named in honour of generous benefactors Dr James O'Neil Mayne and his sister Miss Mary Emelia Mayne. Predominantly used for graduation ceremonies it also hosted orientation ceremonies for new students, career fairs, concerts, and conventions. In 2002, Mayne underwent a major refurbishment and re-opened in 2004 as the new home for the University Art Museum.
