George Rymer was organiser and President of the Australian Railways Union (Qld Branch) in the 1920s and editor of the newspaper The Advocate.

Walter James Saunders served with the 1 FAB [Field Artillery Brigade] from October 1914. He embarked from Sydney on 18 October 1914 aboard the HMAT Argyllshire. Although he served at Gallipoli, this period is not covered in the diary.

The Schonell Theatre is a cinema and theatre complex at the University of Queensland. It was constructed in 1970 and refurbished in 2005. For thirty years it hosted regular screenings of popular, alternative & foreign films. In 2006 the theatre was forced to cease regular cinema screenings, although live theatre performances continued. It is also home to the Cement Box Theatre located in the basement of the building. The Schonell Theatre has once again opened for limited screenings and events.

Fiona Scotney (née Bell) earned her PhD at the University of Queensland in 2014. Her thesis was titled 'The New Australian Poets: Networks and the Generation of 68'.
