Tomlinson, John, 1942-

John Tomlinson is, among other things, a social worker, poet, political activist, amateur fisherman and brewer of fine coffee. He has campaigned since the 1960s for Aboriginal and workers’ rights and has been a persistent advocate for people living under colonial rule throughout the Asia-Pacific region. His involvement in the campaign for an independent East Timor began with the Indonesian military’s invasion of that territory in 1975 and continued throughout the 24 years of military occupation.

Alison Hoddinott was born in Hobart, Tasmania. She studied at the University of Tasmania. Greg Kratzmann and Alison Hoddinott edited a collection of Gwen Harwood's poems, published by UQP in 2003. She was a Senior Lecturer at the School of English, Communication and Theatre at University of New England, Armidale. She died on the 28 November 2022.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1901. Arrived in Brisbane in 1914. Registered Architect in New South Wales in 1923. Employed as chief draftsman then associate by l.L. Powell from 1924 to 1927. In partnership as Atkin, Powell, and Conrad from 1927 to 1931; from 1931 to 1933 in partnership as Lange, L. Powell and Geo Rae in Brisbane. Architect in Brisbane from 1933 to 1940.

Dietrich, Amalie, 1821-1891

Amalie Nelle was born on 26 May 1821 at Siebenlehn, Saxony. Married Wilhelm August Salomo Dietrich around 1846 and later separated from him. She was sent to Australia to collect for the private museum of J.C. Godeffroy, arriving in Brisbane in August 1863. She collected plants, insects, corals, shells, mammals, fish, birds and aboriginal remains. She returned, via Tonga, in Hamburg in March 1873. She died on 9 March 1891.

Based in the Sunshine Coast area in Queensland, Move For Peace was active in the 1980s. Some of its aims included: to create a new work free from sufferings, nuclear contamination, wars, hunger and fear; and to call on the Australian government to prevent the mining, sale and export of uranium.

Charles Greville Morris was a British landscape painter. Born in Lancashire in 1861, he studied in Paris under M. M. Bollinger, Collin and Courtois. Morris exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1886 to 1894 and was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists.

English Association of Queensland

On 17 November 1922 a meeting was held at the University of Queensland for the purpose of forming an English and Modern Languages Association. The first general meeting was held on 1 March 1923 and at a meeting in November 1923 it was decided to change the name to the English Association of Queensland. The English Association was founded in 1906 in England by a small group of English teachers and scholars. The English Association today is an international organisation with branches and members in Britain and throughout the world and since December 1993 has been based at the University of Leicester. At its Annual General Meeting in 1990, English Association of Queensland made the decision to go into recess.

Communist Party of Australia. Queensland Branch

The Queensland Branch of the Communist Party of Australia began around 1920, the same time as it's parent party. It was one of the CPA's three largest branches. The party ceased operating in 1991.
