History
The Abortion Rights Network of Australia (ARNA) was formed in December 1992 at a national meeting of abortion rights activists organised by the Sydney-based Women's Abortion Action Campaign (WAAC). ARNA's aims were to coordinate national action on abortion rights; ensure Australia's adherence to international covenants which promote women's abortion rights; and to facilitate formal networking, information sharing, and liaison between state-based and international abortion rights groups. Margaret Kirkby was nominated as the inaugural National ARNA Coordinator in March 1993. The first ARNA National Conference was held in November 1993. Many ARNA members were also part of state-based abortion rights groups, such as the Women's Abortion Campaign, Children by Choice Association and Women's Abortion Action Campaign. ARNA was active until at least 1998. Unclear when ARNA disbanded.
