History
Mick Butcher, sometimes referred to as Butcher Mick, was thought to be born in 1910 (though some sources cite a birth year of 1914 or 1916). Speaker of the Alyawarr language. His wife was Daphne Butcher and they had numerous children together, including a son named Raymond Mick or Raymond Butcher Mick. Resided in the Canteen Creek area for at least part of his life. Was involved in the Wakaya-Alyawarre Land Claim. He contributed to the research conducted by Paul Memmott and the Aboriginal Environments Research Centre in various locations around the Gulf Country region during the 1970s.
