History

Melbourne-born Douglas Leonard Belcher was ordained as a Minister and served as Superintendent at the Mornington Island Mission between 1953 and 1971, interrupted only by a two-year stint serving at a parish in Adelaide from 1963 to 1964 before returning to Mornington Island again. He played a key role in setting up the Morning Island Dance group. He was married to Doreen Loosemore. Douglas was awarded an MBE in 1971. He died on 27 September, 1999.
